About Us
The Rake is an Independent Menswear store in the heart of Newcastle, NSW. Founded in 2023 by industry veteran, Rob Moore, after he and his family relocated from Sydney post COVID lockdown. The mix of old and new in, what is now known as, the East End immediately felt like the right place for the type of Menswear store Rob wanted to build.
A curated view, deep product knowledge, and brands built to stand the test of time.
Rob is a career retailer, having spent more than two decades in menswear - notably as a buyer for Harrods - before founding The Rake in 2023. The idea was simple: build the shop he would shop in, stocking brands that he knew did not compromise on quality.

Rob has spent more than two decades in menswear, buying and leading teams for stores including Harrods, before opening The Rake in 2023. Rob wishes he was from Connecticut so he could wear Ralph & Gant. play golf and drink martinis all day but he's Irish so he settles for leaning into more of our classic brands.

Cody runs the day to day operations and is great when it comes to sizing, fit and product questions - email cody@therake.com.au if you're not sure what to order. Cody is a denim and heritage T-Shirt guy who puts time and effort into looking like he just got out of bed. Likely to be wearing sunglasses and shoes worth more than your car.

Josh is our resident photographer, artist and orderer of stuff from Vista Print. Josh is Newy through and through and much like the city has a close affinity to classic workwear. Very likely to see Josh in Carhartt WIP, Service Works and Uskees with a sprinkle of Merz b. Schwanen on top to show that he can mix it with the grown ups.
