Provider Store.
Slow made.
Japanese soul.
The Rake stocks Provider Store candles in-store in Newcastle and online. Each candle is hand-poured in Sydney into a Japanese ceramic teacup — made to burn, then made to keep.
Provider Store was founded in Sydney's Surry Hills in 2014 by Tara Bennett, who returned from a trip to Japan overwhelmed by that country's reverence for craft, for the handmade, for objects that are both useful and beautiful.
The candles are the heart of what Provider does. Each one is hand-poured with pure soy wax into a ceramic vessel made by a family-run kiln in Japan — a teacup that keeps living long after the wax is gone. The scents are named in Japanese, each one a translation of a mood, a place, a time of day. They are, as Provider puts it, slow made.

Burn and return.
The Provider candle story.
Every Provider Store candle begins life as a ceramic vessel made by a family-run kiln in Seto, Japan. The cups arrive in Sydney, where Tara and her team hand-pour pure soy wax into each one in their Surry Hills studio.
When the wax is gone, the vessel doesn't go in the bin. It goes back to Provider — or stays in your kitchen as a coffee cup or tea bowl. "Burn and return" is the motto: bring your spent candle back to a stockist and have it refilled, in any scent you choose.
It's a genuinely circular object. Japanese craft, Australian making, a closed loop. That's what makes Provider candles worth buying, and worth keeping.
Why we stock Provider Store.
Provider is one of those brands that needs almost no explanation in-store — the candles sell themselves on scent alone. People walk in, smell Hikari or Komorebi, and they're done. It's immediate.
What we appreciate beyond the scents is the object itself. The ceramic vessels are genuinely beautiful — each one slightly different, handmade in Japan. They sit well in a home. They feel considered. That's exactly what we're looking for when we choose what to stock.
The refill model is also something we believe in. It's a better way to buy a candle — better for the environment, better value over time. We carry the full Provider candle range at The Rake in Newcastle.
