The Rake · Newcastle NSW
Provider Store was founded in Sydney's Surry Hills in 2014 by Tara Bennett, who returned from Japan overwhelmed by that country's reverence for craft — for objects that are both useful and beautiful.
Each candle is hand-poured with pure soy wax into a ceramic vessel made by a family-run kiln in Japan — a teacup that keeps living long after the wax is gone. The scents are named in Japanese, each one a translation of a mood, a place, a time of day. Slow made.
Tabako
TobaccoA smokey, woody aroma with hints of cardamom and clove balanced with leather. Warm and grounding — burn on a cold night.
Sakura
Cherry BlossomLight and clean — a fresh everyday scent. Reminiscent of clean laundry and open windows. The easiest burn in the range.
Hikari
LightOne of the most popular scents in the range. Woody and grounded with delicate citrus — a daytime burn that brings clarity to a room.
Dāku
DarkThe opposite of Hikari — rich, sweet, and nocturnal. The aroma of a late-night whisky at a dimly lit bar. Burn after dinner.
Komorebi
Light filtering through the treesA Japanese pine forest with incense drifting through the air. Dappled light warming a forest floor — considered and immersive.
Onsen
Hot SpringA mountainous Japanese ryokan soaking in a hinoki bath. Woody, calming, and deeply restorative. A bathroom essential.
Maido
WelcomeGrounding, calming, tension-easing. Named after Provider's own café — a space designed to slow people down. Burn when you need to exhale.
Provider Store
The signature scentSpicy and forest-fresh — a scent that signals to your nervous system that it's time to slow down. This is what the store smells like.
Shiki
CeremonyA Japanese temple — the moment you light incense before paying your respects. Frankincense, spice, and warmth. Ceremonial and still.
Rakkī
LuckyFresh floral balanced with grounding woody warmth. Mood-lifting and stress-easing — a great warm-weather scent. One of our favourites.
The Provider candle story.
Every Provider Store candle begins life as a ceramic vessel made by a family-run kiln in Seto, Japan. The cups arrive in Sydney, where Tara and her team hand-pour pure soy wax into each one in their Surry Hills studio.
When the wax is gone, the vessel doesn't go in the bin. It goes back to Provider — or stays in your kitchen as a coffee cup or tea bowl. Bring your spent candle back to a stockist and have it refilled, in any scent you choose.
Japanese craft, Australian making, a closed loop. That's what makes Provider candles worth buying, and worth keeping.
Provider is one of those brands that needs almost no explanation.
The candles sell themselves on scent alone. People walk in, smell Hikari or Komorebi, and they're done. It's immediate.
The ceramic vessels are genuinely beautiful — each one slightly different, handmade in Japan. They sit well in a home. They feel considered. The refill model is also something we believe in — a better way to buy a candle.
