The brand

Inspired by a 1981 military-issue backpack

Remote Projects was founded in 2014 by Ross Bird in Bangalow, NSW — inspired by a solo trip through India's Andaman Islands with a 1981 military-issue canvas backpack. Every piece is made from 10oz Army Duck waxed canvas with a waterproof lining and industrial-grade hardware.

The 10-year warranty isn't a marketing line

It's a reflection of what 10oz Army Duck waxed canvas, waterproof lining and upholstery-grade thread can actually do over time. The wax coating makes the canvas water-resistant and reproofable — when it starts to wear, you can re-wax it and extend the life of the bag indefinitely. Remote Projects also donates a portion of every sale to Bush Heritage Australia.

Why we stock it

A bag you won't replace in two years

We get a lot of questions from customers looking for something that works on the way to work and on a camping trip on the weekend. The canvas develops character over time — it ages well in a way that nylon and synthetic materials simply don't. We stock Remote Projects because it fits the same philosophy as everything else we carry: considered design, quality materials, and a clear reason to exist.

Questions

What is Remote Projects made from?

All bags are made from 10oz Army Duck waxed canvas with an 8oz waterproof canvas lining and upholstery-grade sewing thread. Hardware is industrial-grade throughout.

Does Remote Projects have a warranty?

Yes — every product comes with a 10-year warranty, one of the longest in the category and a genuine indicator of how the bags are made.

How do I care for a Remote Projects bag?

Spot clean with a damp cloth. The wax canvas outer can be reproofed with a canvas wax product when it starts to show wear — this extends the water resistance and life of the bag significantly.

Where is Remote Projects based?

A family business based in Bangalow, NSW — in the Northern Rivers region near Byron Bay, founded by Ross Bird.
