The Service Works Buying Guide: Chef Pants And Chef Shorts
Canvas, seersucker or herringbone. What separates the Service Works chef pants and shorts, and how to choose your size.
Service Works cuts its trousers and shorts from chef-wear patterns: an elasticated waist with a drawstring, and a relaxed leg. The names sit close together and most of the difference comes down to fabric, so this guide covers what each one is made from and how the sizing works.
The Classic Chef Pant
Start here, because it's the flagship and the shorts are built from it. The Classic Chef Pant is made from 360gsm (11oz) GOTS organic cotton canvas, with an elasticated waist and adjustable drawstring, fatigue-style front pockets, rear pockets with a woven label, and a relaxed straight leg.
The Chef Shorts
The Classic Chef Short is the warm-weather version of the trouser, with the same 360gsm canvas, fatigue pockets and elasticated drawstring waist.
The Seersucker Chef Short takes the same relaxed fit and fatigue pockets and makes them in 200gsm GOTS organic cotton seersucker, garment dyed. It's lighter than the canvas, with a subtle crinkled texture.
The Pigment HBT Chef Short uses a pigment-dyed herringbone twill cotton for a softer, worn-in finish, with a relaxed straight leg, fatigue front pockets and an adjustable drawstring waistband.
Choose the Classic for the do-it-all pair, the Seersucker for the hottest days, and the Pigment HBT if you want something that already looks worn in.
Sizing
The elasticated waist means each size covers a wide range. Take your normal size for the intended relaxed fit, size down for something slimmer, or size up for a baggier leg. The trousers run long, which suits cuffing. The shorts run true to size and sit at mid-thigh.
